BarNaked Natural Soaps
Handmade natural soap made in Calgary! Everyone loves funky soaps, but most handmade bars are not only lovely, they can be expensive. We wanted to create a soap that our customers would actually use, not keep as a decoration. In creating our formulas our goal was to use only natural ingredients: vegetable oils, color sources from nature and essential oils for scent.
The product has been fun to create & has brought much awareness to our customers. Many people are surprised to know that animal fats are a main ingredient in many commercial soaps! We have created a special long lasting formula using olive oil, palm oil & coconut oil to make just the perfect hard bar that lathers luxuriously & that doesn't melt in the soap dish! Providing real value to the customer and so there are not any extra costs for the packaging!
About Handmade Soaps
Soap is a salt - an acid and a base react with one another and neutralize into the salt (or soap). This process is called saponification.
Hand made soaps are manufactured with fats or oils (the acid), sodium hydroxide (the base) and water (the solvent). At Alberta Natural Products, we make cold process soap, without complex chemical additives or animal products like beef tallow, and only use heat from the reaction. All of our products are made with vegetable oils that help the skin balance its loss and absorption of moisture while nourishing the body with vitamins.
The combination of oils that we use produces a hard bar that lathers, lasts a long time & does not melt in the soap dish. The scent is more stable in vegetable soaps because the natural odour is less overpowering than lard or tallow. With the cold process method, soap retains the natural glycerine created during the saponification process. Hand cut bars are never perfect, they can be rather crude and artistic.
Our raw materials are ethical and sustainable and we never test our products on animals - only on family and friends.
Ingredients:
Olive oil - is a very good moisturizer because it attracts moisture & holds it close to the skin forming a breathable layer. It does not block the natural functions of the skin. Olive oil produces a stingy lather, but it cleans well.
Palm Oil - from the pulp of the fruit of the palm tree produces a small slow lather but yields a hard bar and speeds up saponification time. It is the animal rights advocates substitute for tallow...
Coconut oil - is obtained from copra, dried coconut meat. It offers soap makers the missing link - it has wonderful lathering qualities and naturally resists rancidity.
Essentail Oils - are almost always derived from plants and are somewhat like blood to humans. They flow thru the plant fighting off disease & predators while attracting benenficial plants and insects. They are natural scents that provide some preservative qualities.
Colors, and other special ingredients are minerals, clays & tea infusions, straight from the garden, kitchen and mother earth.
Common Ingredients: saponified Olive, Palm, & Coconut oils, scented with essential oils and tinted with vegetables and minerals from our earth.
